Cooking Project - Gỏi Cuốn

Chào các cô. Chào các bạn.
Chúng em group did gỏi cuốn cho cooking project. Vào sáng thứ sáu, em và bạn em đi thầy Minh’s house. Thầy Minh sống ở Bukit Panjang.
Chúng em đến thầy minh’s house at chín giờ sáng. When chúng em đến, many groups are there preparing for their dish. Though it was relatively crowded, chúng em found a place to sit and we started preparing the gỏi cuốn dish.

The ingredients required :
Bánh Tráng
Prawns
Cabbage
Cucumber
Bean sprouts
Hoisin Sauce
Herbs
Bee Hoon
Chives
Mint Leaves
Peanut Butter
(Serve 30-40 people)

Method of preparation for Gỏi Cuốn:
(1) Dip the Bánh Tráng into water, once it is moistened (but it must not be too wet, if not it will tear), quickly take it out and lay it on a flat surface.

(2) Add shredded cabbage, sliced cucumbers, bean sprouts, bee hoon, one mint leaf, herbs and lay one single prawn at the other end of the bánh tráng.

(3) Fold both sides of the bánh tráng, one side at a time. And take extra care to make sure that the folded sides are straight.

(4) Place the chives before the prawn.

(5) Next, start to roll the Gỏi Cuốn and keep it tight as you roll.

(6) After the rolling is done, we can start to prepare the sauce.

(7) Chop up a few cloves of garlic stir fry it it until it turns golden brown.

(8) Next, add in hoisin sauce. Stir fry evenly.

(9) Lastly, add in the peanut butter to the mixture. Stir fry until the peanut butter is mixed evenly.

(10)Prepare to serve.

(There are many recipes that can be found online for this dish, however, some recipes may vary from one another. For us, we carefully picked one recipe out of the many and showed it to Cô Bích who approved of it. The above recipe includes some of the steps that we performed when we prepared Gỏi Cuốn.)

And now, time for the pictures!

These are some of the ingredients that we prepared. Minh Nguyệt prepared the bee hoon and prawns, Minh Trang & Minh Hòng prepared the Hoisin sauce, herbs and chives while Minh Tuyết prepared the cucumbers and beansprouts. Cô Bích helped us to buy the most important ingredient and that is the bánh tráng !

Our Gỏi Cuốn, with the specially prepared sauce!

Chúng em with our masterpiece!

And that sums up the cooking project. Overall, we had fun & were delighted to be able to learn some cooking skills from Master Chef Cô Bích. It was also an interesting and interactive way for the vietnamese language students to learn more about the culture of Việt Nam.

Cám ơn các cô, for planning this cooking project!
