Nấu ăn dự án - Gỏi gà / nộm gà 03

Chào các bạn.
On 03/10/09, chúng em đi nhà thầy Minh nấu Gỏi gà/ nộm gà (Vietnamese Chicken salad).
Chúng em đi NTUC Fairprice trước khi đến nhà thầy Minh. Chúng em chín giờ đến nhà thầy Minh.

Once we reached there, we were so excited and can't wait to start preparing for the dishes.

The Recipe

2 chicken breasts or chicken thighs, cooked, boned, skinned, roughly shredded

2 cups bean sprouts

2 cups Chinese cabbage or savoy cabbage, shredded

4 tablespoons vietnamese mint or mint, finely chopped

Sauce

2 tablespoons lime juice

2 tablespoons fish sauce

1 teaspoon sugar

1 teaspoon ginger

2 chilies, finely chopped

3 garlic cloves, finely chopped

2 shallots, finely sliced or 1/2 red onion, finely sliced

We first prepared the dressing by mixing together the lime juice, fish sauce, sugar, ginger, chilli, garlic and shallots. Most of the ingredients had to be finely cut and chopped in order to get the "juice" out from the materials. Luckily FeiJun (insert Viet name here) had some cooking experience before and was able to do the following speedily and expertly in a matter of minutes.

At the same time, some of us went to cook the chicken by placing it in boiling water for roughly 5 to 10 minutes. (Insert cooking picture if have)

We also boiled the bean sprouts for a few seconds.
Once everything was prepared, we mixed the bean sprouts, chinese cabbage, and chicken together. We then proceeded to pour the dressing over the mixture, mixing them till they were well combined. Finally we added in the Vietnamese mint and...

took a taste...

We thought that it tasted good. However, Cô Bích took a taste and thought that it was too bland. Hence, we added in more sauce, which then became too sweet. The food tasting became a cycle. We would add in more dressing or ingredients and các cô would comment that it lacked salt, fish sauce, etc, and the following would carry on.

Finally...

TA DA!

It had been a fun and enlightening session. We managed to not only learned how to cook a Vietnamese dish but also tasted a few of them. The dishes all looked outstandingly good when placed next to each other, and one could be forgiven for thinking that it was a buffet of some sort. They also tasted very good and it definitely lit our tastebuds.

Cảm ơn cô Lê, cô Quỳnh, cô Bích và các bạn for the interesting and very fun afternoon.

Learning a language with the class makes it all the more delightful, stimulating and exhilarating.
